What is actually in a kit
Kits are counted in pieces because pieces are cheap. Safety 1st's Home Safeguarding Set is 80 pieces: 40 plug protectors, 30 cabinet and drawer latches, 6 door knob covers and 4 cabinet slide locks, per its product page. The 30 latches are the screw-in internal kind. Baby Proof Me's Complete Care kit is 54 pieces: 12 magnetic locks with 3 keys, 6 adjustable strap locks, 24 outlet plugs and 12 clear corner protectors, every one adhesive, with the 24-hour cure the maker states on its lock pages. Its Zap Saver kit is the same minus the corners. So a kit covers outlets (with plug inserts, the weakest cover type, per plug inserts vs sliding outlet covers), cabinets (with latches or magnetic locks) and, depending on the box, doors or corners.
What is in no kit
A furniture anchor. A baby gate. A window guard. A stove knob cover or oven lock. A toilet lock. Who a kit is for
Grandparents preparing for visits, a second home, a rental you are in for a year, or a first pass before the baby moves. It gets thirty outlets and a dozen cabinets done in an afternoon. Then the specific purchases start: the magnetic locks in a kit are fine, but a kit's plug inserts should give way to sliding plates where plugs come and go, and no kit's corner guards are dense enough for a stone hearth. For a rental the adhesive kit is the right starting point, per babyproofing an apartment or rental.
