General information, not a safety guarantee

Everything on this site is general information about childproofing products and the standards behind them. It isn't a safety inspection of your home, it isn't professional childproofing advice for your specific house, and it isn't a substitute for the manufacturer's manual. No product described here prevents every injury, and none replaces adult supervision. Our approach to safety topics is described in the editorial policy.

Installation and use

Homes vary: wall construction, stud placement, banister shapes, cabinet finishes and window types all change what a product will and will not do. Follow the manufacturer's instructions over anything written here, check your local building code where it applies (pool barriers and window guards in particular), and stop using any product a child has defeated or that shows damage. Where a job is beyond you, hire a certified childproofer.

Accuracy of information

We work to keep every page accurate and sourced, and we correct errors when we find them. Brands change models, specs and certifications, and we can't guarantee that every detail is current at the moment you read it. Where a detail matters to your decision, check it on the maker's or retailer's page, which our product cards link to.

Prices, purchases and retailers
