What actually holds
A tipping dresser puts a sharp outward pull on its anchor. The furniture end is easy: a screw into the back panel's frame or the top rail. The wall end is the whole product. The CPSC's Anchor It! guidance and every manufacturer's instructions say the same thing: the wall screw goes into a stud. Half an inch of drywall does not hold a tipping load, and a plastic drywall plug pulls out with the dresser attached. That is why the anchors here are ranked with the “critical” weighting, standards and installation truth at 30 percent each: an anchor that makes the stud non-negotiable is doing its job before you open the box. The numbers behind the urgency, 217 deaths from 2013 to mid-2023 and a child injured every 53 minutes, are in do you really need to anchor furniture.
Cable, strap, or bracket
Hangman's kit is a steel bracket at each end with a galvanized aircraft cable between them: no fabric to fray, no adhesive, and a published rating. Safety 1st's and QuakeHOLD!'s products are nylon or woven straps with a screw hole at each end; QuakeHOLD! makes the furniture end adhesive so you never drill a finished back panel. Straps are cheaper, come in colors, and tension adjustably; cable is stiffer and its maker is the only one here to state a load figure. The head-to-head is anti-tip straps vs brackets. The adhesive question, which is really a renter question, is no-drill vs screw-in furniture anchors.

How many per piece
Two anchors per piece of furniture, one near each end of the top, is the usual manufacturer instruction and it is what the strap two-packs are sized for. Hangman's kit is one bracket pair; buy two for a dresser wider than about 36 inches. A TV gets its own strap plus the stand's anchor, or Safety 1st's three-way strap that does both; the TV ranking is best TV anti-tip straps. Walk the house counting: every dresser, bookcase, tall cabinet, changing table, TV and TV stand. Most homes need eight to twelve anchors, and the order to do them in is in how to anchor a dresser.
